Found Around NYC: The Homeless

Before I started this site I had an idea of possibly turning it into a space that might help document homeless people in NYC and thought once I finished my studies I would document the homeless people that I come across in Manhattan.  With the internet, this might have been one way to help not only document those who are lost but perhaps help families and friends locate those people they have lost contact with and hope to find. 

If there is anyone who wishes to use this site for that purpose, please contact me.

Art That Sells.... What?

This art was found plastered along the street and I'm just clueless as to what it is advertising, selling or promoting.

The streets are not boring but I can't get the art.  What is the meaning? 

It got my attention and that is probably the main purpose.  Regardless, it is interesting and fun.

Chelsea Street Art...

This was found on a building wall... graffiti art.  While wandering the modern art galleries in Chesea, this art caught my eye.  It is unsigned.

It Was Uphill...

Sometimes moving uphill is only possible with help.  Or snow chains.  This bus was on Lexington on 103rd or so, seen on our way to the subway after a trip to the Museum of the City of New York.  Saul Steinberg's drawings there: worth seeing.

Street Appeal? C'Mon...

Chanel #5 was such a dignified scent.   My grandmother wore it.  I do, too.  The street posters for this new campaign push are up - this one on Second Avenue and 70th or so.

That this cigarette brand, whose customers are 70% men, would want to appeal to women with this subliminal association to refinement and pleasant scents, just doesn't make much sense.

An elegant association for a filthy stinky product?
Maybe it is just me but I doubt this bird will fly.

Yuck Snow...

Last week's snow, still on the curbs, is just nasty.  It wasn't a pretty snow to begin with, all slushy and dirty from the get-go.

It isn't pretty at all.  It is getting old, this ugly snow, amidst all this cold.

BRRRRRRR....

It was 12 degrees this morning and now, after a cup of coffee, it is up to 13 degrees.  It is the coldest weather we've experienced anywhere in years - definitely not Houston or Atlanta.  We still haven't learned how to be prepared and bundled up in this weather.

This video by Tony from Kentucky, who considers himself an amateur videographer, might be a good short art piece for how it feels to be out in this cold weather...

Cold Hustle on Madison Avenue

On Madison and 71st on the way to teatime at The Carlysle yesterday, everyone was bundled up.  Me, too.

Beautiful Brownstones...

This brownstone is on 121st off of Malcom X Blvd.... There are so many beautiful streets with architecture to scale...

The way the sun fell so gently on this home made me want to capture it and share it here.

What is this???

These stands, selling colored liquids in clear bottles, tiered, were on several sidewalks on Harlem last Saturday.  I have no idea what this is.
If anyone knows, I'd be interested.

Never have seen this sort of merchandizing curb-side before, not in the South, not in Texas, not in the West.  Can somebody clue me in?
